Regardless of personal taste, Rough Trade is one of the most important record labels of all time. Looking through their discography I was reminded of how many of their records I consider personal favorites and , whether you know it or not, their impact is still felt today in the manner of which Record Labels operate.
At 88 mins, the below documentary is BBC that does a great job of capturing the vitality of this pioneering record shop and label. Dig in!

A few years ago I got a promo CD in the mail by a band called the Horrors. I knew immediately from the included “one-sheet” that this was not a new release by the band on In The Red Records, so I tossed it into one of the piles on my desk and forgot about.
Months later, a friend sent me a video of “Sheena Is A Parasite”. Digging the song, I remembered that discarded EP, found it and later played in the car. The first track was an extra “spooky” and aggressive version of the Screaming Lord Such / Joe Meek classic “Jack The Ripper.” And with that, I was hooked (and also a bit less judgmental).
This interview was conducted a few months back when the band was touring the States supporting the Kills. It was definitely one of the most fun I’ve done as I had a ton of questions on the band’s progression that I felt hit a few nerves (in the right way) and sparked some honest discussion.
That said, it was pretty impossible to cut this thing down to acceptable length from the hour plus we ended up chatting. I think we did a good job. Enjoy!
