Regardless of personal taste, Rough Trade is one of the most important record labels of all time. Looking through their discography I was reminded of how many of their records I consider personal favorites and , whether you know it or not, their impact is still felt today in the manner of which Record Labels operate.
At 88 mins, the below documentary is BBC that does a great job of capturing the vitality of this pioneering record shop and label. Dig in!
Pretty Things are a favourite of mine, and it always boggles the mind that they never achieved the same level of recognition as some of their contemporaries.
The clip below captures the mid-60’s Things laying down a slice of heavy, white-boy R&B that rivals anything you could put in front of it. And that BASS TONE… EXPLETIVE! EXPLETIVE! EXPLETIVE!
